This is a refurbished GPS. Refurbished generally means that the unit has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the navigator back to like new conditions. Some GPS may contain cosmetic blemishes.

Reburbished has no map updates
Bought a refurbished Nuvi 680 after reading positive reviews which indicated a free map update WAS INCLUDED with the purchase of a refurb unit. Free updates are not included and fact costs $70. For that price, and had I known this, I would have purchased a new unit. Additionally, and as noted by other reviewers, all cities are not serviced by MSN Direct. In my opinion, it's another feature you can't use. Also, the Travel Kit features are not included and must be purchased as an add on.

This is my first GPS, did lots of research on products and settled on the Nuvi 680. Now that I have it, I have to say it's a big rip. Bottom line: buy a new unit, not because the refurbs are not reliable but because the map updates are not included (and my unit last acquired a satellite in Feb., 2008) and updates are expensive.

Good Product if you travel and are directionally challenged. It will locate any business you need and direct you there. The refurb was in perfect condition and easy to set up. Photos look great on the wide screen and MP3s sound clean. Bluetooth works great, connects flawlessly.

Works Great - Recommended!
I am very pleased with this GPS. My cousin had a Garmin Nuvi and that made me switch to this one over the TomTom. The unit came in a factory refurb box so its not confused with a new model but looks like a new model. Very high quality. The unit works very well and despite other reviews that I have found online, it takes me directly to the location that I input.

Pros: Large display, easy functionality that wont leave you guessing what to do next, long battery life so shorter trips won't require the battery cord to be plugged in, text to speech works flawlessly but not available in all languages (not a problem for me but maybe for some), very good reception indoors and in inclement weather.

Cons: Screen touch sensitivity can be a bit to sensitive at times but that may be because I have big fingers. :) No other cons.

Better
Better than the suction cup window one which always falls. I still have to be careful when I hit the gas/brake too hard or turn sharply. It slowly vibrates down the dash and I have to move it, but its better than the suction cup marks and sudden falls with that one.

Garmin Dashboard mount
We have used the dashboard mount for about 3 months, and while i do not like it as well as the Garmin mount that I have for my Nuvi it has worked well. It does not move around and seems rugged. The only negative is that the Streetpilot vibrates slightly if the car is on a bumpy surface. It is a good product.

I like this mount better than original!
I didn't realize at first that this mount is not a suction cup that sticks to the wind shield, it's a tripod- each of the legs is really heavy so it sits really nicely on the top of the dashboard. The car charger still plugs into the mount the way it does on the original. We're really happy with this buy.

Must be easy to use!
We bought this for my Mother-In-Law for Christmas. She has a really hard time understanding all electronics that she needs to use and we weren't sure she would be able to use this. She has already used it many times and loves it! She figured out how to use it in about 5 minutes. She said it is great and loves all the features on it.

Rocking Roadmate!
I got this for Xmas and am loving it! I moved from Phoenix area to Dallas area and have gotten lost even with mapquest maps, Google maps and a big Texas road atlas. This thing actually works right out of the box! The second time I used it I didn't even look at the screen (traffic) but it gave such good directions I just listened to "her". It was like having someone sit next to you and tell you where to turn.

2 minor considerations: I have a MAC, not a windooz PC so I'm not sure how that will affect updates, but I figure I can mooch from my darling daughter. The other thing is that the documentation is all on the CD in a .pdf file. Good enough but I would have liked a hard copy manual.

waste of time and money!!
I have heard of all kinds of good things about the GPS navigation devices..and after some research I decided to purchase the roadmate 1412. Well right out of the box the problem is that there is no owner's manual to have in your car with you..they provide a disk that has 53 pages if you would like to print out..on your ink and paper!! Also the device doesn't come with a charger for your home..must be purchased additionally!

So here I am up in northern Michigan and must first print 53 pages and go to my van in 20 degree weather to charge my device....I called Technical Support (was disconnected on 3 times before getting through to someone)on this issue and they seemed not to have any solutions to my problem and simple said last year they gave out owner's manuals and that a can purchase a AC charger...thanks for the help!!! I will start my search for a new device!!!

This is great! Amazon is the place to get it too...
I am a seasonal player in the mountains. Play 3 to 4 times a week with a handicap of 20-25. Practice 6 days a week, and do indoor practice in winter. Try to use it to travel also.
I read all kinds of reviews and almost didn't choose this one! I compared all other golf sites before the purchase, and amazon had always had it cheaper even with other discounts from other sites.

It was so easy to do the set up and installation. I don't understand how some had so much trouble. The instructions were very easy. Finding the coursse on the gps are easy to select. It is better than trying to find the pin to point it too, and it's precise on yardage.
I hate that you have to pay a fee every year but, the non fee ones don't have as much precision and choices. I do recommend the leather case to protect it.

Golf being a game of inches, this helps you to study your distances and your game even better! Totally recommend this gps over any other. Get it off amazon! Happy Golfing all!!

SkyCaddie SG5
We received our SkyCaddie SG5 and have enjoyed using it. It has really helped with the knowledge of how far to the front edge of the green and then knowing the approx distance to the flag. This helps mainly with my short game in knowing how far to hit the approach shot and stay below the flag. This also helps my wife determine the percentage of her wedge swings to get the ball back to the hole. The SkyCaddie infomercial guarantees 5 shots saved and once the fairways start back growing and shots react better I truly feel this will happen. I have seen several of our MGA members using their SkyCaddie and haven't heard a bad word yet! We love our SkyCaddie SG5!

A great golf industry company
The first unit I purchased had a defective satelite receiver. I had to mail it back. SkyCaddie has a great website and the email response for problems is within one day. I sent the unit back to Amazon and SkyCaddie re-instated my membership on the new unit. The company is true to their word.

As for golfing, the device is priceless. No matter where you are on the course, you know yardage to targets and trouble. The "intelligreen" technology is great. You know the size of the green and as soon as you see the pin you can figure yardage to the pin location. No more guesswork on approaches. I played a course for the first time and had no hesitation is club selection. LOVE IT.

Garmin Topo U.S.
I have used this product and have some mixed feelings. I also have National Geo Topo and like it very well. Garmin works and it does transfer to my hand help GPS. That is what I bought it for. The National Geographic Topo wont do this. The product would stand to imporve by adding more of the existing "Ghost Towns" and old mines like the Chumung Mine near Masonic. I was able to navigate to the Chumung Mine and it seemed to work with my Garmin Summint GPS. For example, it seems to take extra time to calculate milage or distance to a route. Hopefully, this is not due to my lack of experience with the software. I do wish it had more of the feel of the topo's I have worked with in the past.

Roads are not accurate
I purchased this map to update the maps that came on my Garmin GPS. The original maps had roads that have not been updated in 20+ years. When I added the new map I learned that the local roads are inaccurate by 400 to 600 feet. I asked Garmin and was told that roads are just for reference. This map is only good for Topo and little else.

Streets & Topo sufficient but lacks construction changes
This product does provide decent topo along with normal road, street and highway presentation. It is easy to manage moving to my Garmin GPSMap 60CSx the data I need. However, some updated construction is missing. I see no way to update the construction information.

Design flaw
When placing the sensor, it turns out that there is too much tilt towards the crank. After one bump on the road, or hitting it with my road shoe, the arm of the sensor moved and the spokes hit it and broke it off. I am now on my second sensor.

Garmin Forerunner 305 Speed/cadence sensor
It was a little touchy getting it set up, just getting the pick-ups in the right place and close enough. I haven't had a chance to use it outdoors yet but on the trainer it works great.

Garmin Cadence Sensor
Great addition to anyone whom already has a Garmin compatible watch! Easy to use, install, and connect. I have no other products/experience with other biking computers but I couldn't imagine them being any easier than this. Provides great feedback on cadence, speed, etc.

Love it, but quirks a plenty
I recently got into jogging and decided I need a new watch to time how long my laps are taking. Being the nerd I am, I went hog wild and ended up with a full blown HRM, GPS and stop watch. Overkill? Certainly! Do I love it though? Of course! That said, I have a number of reservations that keep me from giving it 5 stars.

The bezel is finicky, requiring very exacting presses. When I'm at rest I don't always get it to behave as I would like. When I'm running or biking, forget about it. How can I be expected to subtlely press the bezel? Some times I'll touch the bezel and nothing will happen, other times it'll take the wrong action. For example, I wear a biking jacket that seems to trigger the watch to think I hit the bezel when I didn't.

Work around is to lock out the bezel while riding. UGH! A similar problem with pressing the lap button. I thought the lap button didn't work for the longest time, until I realized I was touching the bezel then the lap button. Silly me. The bezel is a neat idea, but it doesn't work for something you need when exercising. I think Garmin should replace it with a button or two.

Transferring data to the PC is extremely slow too. Data from a 40 minute bike ride took 2 minutes to download. Come on! And where's the Mac support? Having to use boot camp or Parallels/Fusion isn't a real option.

Works grreat, no support for Mac
I bought the watch on July and although it works great I have experienced software problems such as it freezing up. Garmin told me the problem could be fixed by upgrading the software. They promised to have software available for the Macintosh Computer by this Fall and now say Winter 2009. If you use a Mac DON'T buy the 405 until they have the software for the Mac which might be never. Also if you call Garmin Support plan on being on hold for at least 30 minutes.

Minor tweaks would go a long way
This product has so much potential. As far as I know, it is the only one with built-in GPS (no extra device required like polar) and HRM and all the stuff you would need. I continue to use it even though there are two pretty major issues that need to be addressed.

1) Battery Life. I do long distance triathlons including ironman and the watch just does not have the battery life to go the distance. It should easily be able to do 12-16 hours and it does not even come close. I have had it die during a sub 5 hour 1/2 ironman which is beyond frustrating.

2) The user interface is horrible. Sure, it is elegant, but it is not usuable. It is very difficult to do the scrolling around and you always accidentally select something. Luckily you dont need that mid-workout, but in order to get battery life you need the GPS off when not using - trying to do that between swim, bike and run (GPS ON, GPS OFF, GPS ON) is impossible. The interface also does not work AT ALL when wet or you fingers are cold and/or sweaty. I dont know why they dont have simple buttons with a little scroll dial.

Too bad since the device is almost perfect.
